About

This year, AIGA Nashville is excited to bring you our spring event as a bundled Student Conference including a Portfolio Review and Student Conference. We're still virtual this year via Zoom, but we hope to resume Face to Face programming in the Fall!

Who

This event is open to all students pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Visual Communication, or related field. We also welcome recent graduates whose career and college experience may have been affected by COVID-19 (1-2 years).

Please note that the Portfolio review is primarily reserved for Seniors and Recent Grads.

Tickets

This event is free, however, please sign up through Event Brite. This is how we will send important event information as well as Zoom Links for the events. Please pay close attention to ticket offerings.

Thursday, April 8th: Portfolio Review

6:00 PM - 8:15 PM

Professionals will be on hand to review your work, provide feedback, and ask questions. Please be prepared to screen share a digital portfolio of your work. This may take the form of a portfolio website, digital PDF portfolio, and/or a Behance page. Participants will be placed into a Group A and Group B and you will be notified of your time slot prior to the event.

Portfolio review is primarily reserved for Seniors and Recent Grads.

Friday, April 9th: Student Conference Sessions

Event Kick Off/Design Keynote

10:30 AM - 11:15 AM

Career Show & Tell Panel

This event will feature 3-5 professionals working in various areas of the design industry. This event is designed to showcase and highlight different jobs in the field while allowing for a side by side comparison of these careers in hopes of providing guidance as you plan for and envision your future career.

11:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Get the Job: Tips from the Pros

This panel discussion will feature 3-5 creative professionals who have experience in hiring and managing new talent. They'll be giving pro advice on anything and everything job related: job searches, portfolio prep, resumes and cover letters, job interviews--and everything in-between!

ART Talk: Artist Real Talk

Talk to artists about their work and careers in the arts

Rick Griffith is a graphic designer and master letterpress printer. His work is an erudite exploration of language, history, politics, science, music, and ethics—typographically-focused and relevant. He is known as a passionate advocate for design. Rick’s work has been exhibited at Columbia College Center for Book, Paper, and Print, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Denver Art Museum. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Denver Art Museum, the Tweed Museum of Art, and the Butler Library of Rare Books and Manuscripts at Columbia University. It has been celebrated by the Type Directors Club, Print Magazine, Dwell, and AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers. Rick’s true orientation is towards self-reliance, disruption, creative compassion, and independent thought.

As Design Director at MATTER, Rick works across all media for business, culture, and civic engagement with his partner and staff. MATTER’s broad range of clients includes restaurants, beverage manufacturers and distributors, politicians, universities, architects, engineers, arts venues, mimes, scientists, government agencies, and entrepreneurs.
